Water is basic

We need it to live.

To get water, most of us go to the kitchen, the bathroom sink, the water cooler, the bottled water sold at a supermarket or garage.

But over a billion people around the world lack access to clean water and suffer terribly because of it. Across Africa, most have to grab a bucket, jug, or jerry can and walk for miles until they reach the river or a local pond. The water may be discolored from pollution, and though it will probably make them sick they drink it. In fact water-borne illnesses are the leading cause of death in children under five worldwide, between 4000- 6000 a day.

It is shocking

In a campaign led by Mars Hill Bible Church this Saturday, people around the world will be walking for water to raise awareness and to raise money.

If you get the chance this saturday, grab a bucket, jug or container, fill it with water from the water-butt and go for a walk in the streets where you live. When people ask what you are doing, tell them!

I am walking for water to draw attention to the 1 billion people in the world who don’t have access to clear drinking water.

So go on, please, get out there on Saturday 17th and walk for water.  Super hero capes optional.
